The PTI strongly denounces the ruling in the Iddat case and pledges to file an appeal in the IHC

Omar Ayub, the head of the PTI, criticised the decision and declared that the party would contest it.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has declared that it will appeal a district and sessions court’s ruling to dismiss the petitions asking for the sentences serving party founder Imran Khan and his spouse, Bushra Bibi, in the iddat case to be suspended.

Omar Ayub Khan, the secretary general of the PTI, referred to the decision as “absolutely ridiculous” and bemoaned the politicisation of personal issues.

Ayub declared outside the Islamabad court, “We will challenge this verdict in the high court at once.”

He underlined his displeasure at the politicisation of private matters and reaffirmed that negotiations with the government would not resume until Khan and the other leaders in prison were released.

The party’s response comes after Tuesday’s decision reserved by Additional Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka.

On July 2, a hearing is scheduled for the main argument regarding the nullification of Bushra and Khan’s conviction.

Following a complaint by Bushra’s ex-husband, Khawar Maneka, Khan and Bushra were found guilty of false nikah in February and each received a seven-year prison sentence.

The pair was charged in January, and the court’s decision was made in early February following a protracted trial.

If the ruling had been in Imran Khan’s favour, he would have been released from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. In the cases pertaining to the events of May 9, Khan was given bail and was found not guilty in the Toshakhana and Cypher charges.
