Government to Block Non-Filers’ Bank Accounts Under Revised Finance Bill 2024

In addition to fixing the sales tax rate on mobile phone imports, which will replace 18 percent under the revised Finance Bill 2024, the government is expected to block bank accounts of non-filers.

StartsGo was informed by sources that although the idea to freeze non-filers’ bank accounts was included in the initial Finance Bill 2024, it was not passed.

If non-filers are not answering notices, the government can think about blocking their bank accounts until they show up on the Active Taxpayers List (ATL).
While they can continue to deposit money in banks, non-filers cannot take money out of them until they become filers and have their names listed on the ATL.

If the idea is included in the revised Finance Bill 2024, the FBR will publish an income tax general order (ITGO) blocking the bank accounts of non-filers and naming their names.

The 18 percent sales tax on mobile phone imports would also be replaced by a set amount of sales tax based on the brands of the imported phones under the modified Finance Bill 2024.
